Port Isaac, the home of the Fisherman's Friends and the hit ITV show Doc Martin!
The residents of Port Isaac are no stranger to film crews as they have played host to many through the year; The BBC series Poldark(1975-77) used locations in the area; the BBC drama serial The Nightmare Man (1981) was filmed in and around the village, which doubled for a Scottish island and it was a location for the film of Oscar and Lucinda (1997). The local village hall has been decorated by the team of DIY SOS, Saving Grace, a successful comedy film, was filmed in and around the village.
Doc Martin has been filmed in Port Isaac since 2004 although the village has a fictional name of "Port Wenn." and the fifth series was completed in July 2011. The show has proven extremely popular with more than 9 million viewers in the UK alone, it has now aired in more than 30 countries around the world and as a result has brought the village visitors from all over the globe. The series is one of ITV's top rating dramas and is produced for ITV1 by Buffalo Pictures, the independent production company owned by Martin Clunes and his wife Philippa Braithwaite.
The Slipway hotel is ideally located for exploring the locations featured in Doc Martin. We are across the road from the chemists, the platt, the fish mongers and the public conveniences, around the corner from Louisa's Cottage and just down the road from Al Large's Restaurant and Doc Martin's surgery.
The view from the Slipway's terrace will be very familiar to fans of the show as the camera is often positioned here for long shots up the streets through the village.
We are very greatful to the cast and crew of Doc Martin for their support and patronage during the filming of all their series!
